The R.N.O of Vendicari, among the most beautiful and important places in Sicily, is characterized by a complex of quagmires where man has carried out activities of which we can still see the signs today. It is possible to see the remains of a Greek Byzantine settlement, the Swabian Tower, the tuna fishery, salt pans, houses and fishermen’s establishments, all of which testify to how this strip of land has been both economically and strategically important over time. Marzamemi is a small seaside village whose origin dates back to around the year 1000, when the Arabs built the Tonnara there, expanded in the 1700s by the Nicolaci di Villadorata Family. The tasting stop is at the Zahir Country House Hotel. immersed in Soul Park, an agro-cultural oasis among ancient citrus groves, olive trees, centuries-old almond trees and carob trees that occupies an expanse of farmland in the Vendicari pre-reservation protected area. Here one can admire contemporary art creations and watch innovative art performances. It concludes with a visit to Noto, the capital of Sicilian Baroque and a destination for international tourism, but also for intellectuals and artists of yesterday and today who, thunderstruck, have stopped to live there. Noto offers visitors one of the most harmonious and fascinating historic centers in Sicily, considered a “garden of stone” for the magnificence of its churches and numerous noble palaces.
