R.N.O Pantalica – Valle dell’Anapo is certainly one of the most striking places in the Iblean area. Quarry ploughed by the clear and mythical waters of the rivers Anapo and Calcinara creators of a very rich vegetation, which flow gently among ferns, orchids and plane trees inside the valley protecting the macrostigma trout. The millennial presence of man is evidenced everywhere, and especially by the ancient route of the Syracuse-Vizzini Railroad, all of which creates a unique place of extraordinary beauty. Centers of feudal derivation arise around the Anapo Valley, a once navigable river, including Floridia, fiefdom of the last Duchess Lucia Migliaccio, morganatic bride of King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon and site of the ancient Palio Ippico. It arises with the licentia populandi granted in 1627 by King Philip IV of Sicily to Baron Don Lucio Bonanno Colonna, Duke of Montalbano, after the earthquake and endowed itself between the 1700s and 1800s with a historic center defined by the Mother Church, the Municipal Palace, and the beautiful Umberto I and del Popolo squares. In the Mother Church, a large painting attributed to Crestadoro, depicting “St. Eligius and the Miracle of the Restored Horse,” a donation from the corporation of farriers and blacksmiths, testifies to the importance of the horse within the local economy and popular culture. The Ethnographic Museum “Nunzio Bruno” represents the highest recognition of the talented artisans of the past, illustrating the traditions of this industrious community with the display of all the tools useful for the trades related to the peasant civilization; the protagonist is the workshop of the cart-maker, documenting the entire construction of a cart. To be admired, the works in painting and miniatures from the ancient workshops of Master Nunzio Bruno, as well as some valuable carts. One cannot end the visit without tasting the three “main” products: bread, wine and oil.
