Ferla – Pantalica – Canicattini Bagni
Pantalica, identified with the legendary Ibla is a natural fortress from the late Bronze Age and was explored by Paolo Orsi in the late 1800s and early 1900s. An estimated 5,000 tombs were estimated at the site, many gathered in the 5 main necropolis: North, Northwest, South, Cavetta, and Filiporto. These excavations provided important evidence on the chronology of the prehistoric and protohistoric people who lived there. Ferla, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is configured with a visit to its churches and palaces, fine examples of the Baroque period. It continues with a visit to the “House of Memory,” a permanent parish exhibition that displays much of the sacred furniture of Ferla’s 7 churches. We continue with a visit to the town of Canicattini Bagni, the city of Art Nouveau and music, which represents a unique example of the spread of this decorative floral architectural style in the early 1900s. In the beautiful old town, 19th-century churches, the crypt of the Church of the Holy Souls, and the original urban core with the village’s first church stand out. Finally, a visit to the Tempo Museum, whichwas established in 2000 and is located in the historic Cassarino Palace; it is divided into three sections:
– The section dedicated to Textile consists of artifacts on display that are the result of women’s industriousness;
– The section on Emigration is the work of the Migration Phenomenon Research Center;
– The folk medicine section, with didactic panels and ancient tools, offers the recipes and remedies of aromatizers and apothecaries, who were the healers of old.
