Sicilian “Jazz Stories” at Palermo airport
Traveling with music. At Palermo’s “Falcone e Borsellino” International Airport, the Orchestra Jazz Sicilia- Fondazione The Brass Group has created, in collaboration with Gesap, a unique jazz-themed installation that will welcome travelers until Jan. 31, 2022. The purpose is to promote the second edition of the Sicilia Jazz Festival that will start June 24, 2022.
Specifically, this approximately 40-meter facility tells the stories of jazz in Palermo through events and occasions covering the past 50 years. Images and texts flow and alternate as if they were animated frames of a black-and-white film, to take visitors on a journey that is also mental.
This particular “exhibition” was curated by the Sicilian Region – Department of Tourism, Sports and Entertainment and in the conception and design of architect Laura Galvano. Instead, the content and graphics were taken care of directly by The Brass Group Foundation. Going into more detail, the texts, also translated, by Rosanna Minafò, and one of the sources they drew on is the book Luigi Giuliana who devoted a whole life to jazz.
