The most beautiful beaches in Sicily: where to go?
Overlooking no less than three seas, the Mediterranean, Ionian and Tyrrhenian, the Sicily has some of the most beautiful and enchanting beaches in all of Italy and beyond. Let’s find out together which ones they are, including the most famous and the lesser known ones, but where it is really great to dive into the crystal clear sea.
A corner of paradise: Scopello
It is for all intents and purposes one of the most popular destinations for tourists from all over the world. A few kilometers from Castellammare del Golfo and from the Zingaro Nature Reserve, on the western Sicilian coast, it is possible to enter a unique naturalistic corner that bears the name of the Tonnara of Scopello.
A wonderful red cliff from where the famous and distinctive stacks immersed in a cobalt-blue sea. A fairy-tale landscape seasoned with the scents and vegetation of the Mediterranean scrubland, where nature reigns supreme along with a transparent sea.
The beach is very small and crowded in summer. There are parking lots for both cars and mopeds: the advice is to park well before the downhill slope leading to this corner of paradise so you don’t get stuck in traffic.
A curiosity: the ancient tuna fishery, which can be visited with the ticket price that allows the descent, was always productive and operated until 1984, when the nets were lowered for the last time.
Vendicari Nature Reserve: Calamosche
A beach of the finest sand about two hundred meters long enclosed between two headlands that ensure the sea is always calm and crystal clear. Better known to locals as “Funni Musca“, the beach of Calamosche is a real gem.Considered the most famous beach in the Vendicari Reserve, is one of the most unspoiled places in all of eastern Sicily. The crystal clear water along with the breathtaking views that are only realized by looking up at the sky, make this cove one of the best choices you can make on your tour of beaches in Sicily.
Given the clarity of the water, the beach of Calamosche is a favorite destination for snorkelers, but the beauty of this paradise will strike a chord with everyone who wants to take a dip in a unique natural pool.
Several commercials have been filmed in this cove: for example, one from a telephone company a few years ago starring the comic trio of Aldo, Giovanni e Giacomo. Among the most beautiful beaches in Sicily and Italy.
Blue flags 2022: the beaches awarded
Not everyone knows that there are as many as eleven Sicilian beaches that have been awarded the blue flag by the Foundation For Envronmental Education Regarding 2022. At three entries from last year by Alì Terme, Roccalumera and Marina di Modica, is added this year Furci Siculo. A true record of the Ionian Riviera that along with the reaffirmation of Santa Teresa Riva (on its sixth consecutive flag) places a total of four blue flags, more than a third of those in Sicily.
Luck? Absolutely not, but synergy among the municipalities involved. “For several years –
says Santino Morabito, provincial head of the Italian Federation of Associated Beach Resorts (Fiba)
– Ionian coastal municipalities invest to implement tourism flows with a focus on the blue economy and sustainable services.” If the east coast is smiling, the same cannot be said of the west coast, which is still lagging behind in terms of coastal cleanup and implementation of tourist facilities.
The goal must be, for the coming years, common and without division. Sicily will be able to climb the ranks and give an increasingly international offer.
