Sicily to discover: on the places of the Rai fiction “Màkari”
After the success of the first season, the Rai TV drama is back on TV. “Màkari” directed by Michele Soavi and based on novels by author Gaetano Savatteri. A nice mix of comedy and detective story starring actor Claudio Gioè. But above all, some beauties of Sicily that remained hidden to most and came to the fore thanks to the series. Let’s find out together what they are.
Where was the series filmed?
The whole TV series Màkari was filmed in Sicily and allowed the audience to admire the most beautiful views of the Mediterranean’s largest island. The first season made us fall in love with the city of Trapani, immerse in the village of San Vito Lo Capo and make your eyes marvel at the sight of Scopello And its stacks. All the way to the jewel of the Gypsy Nature Reserve and the Scala dei Turchi.
The second series (aired on Rai 1 from February 7 to 22) was no different and featured the west coast of Sicily again. In addition to the above, some unique glimpses have made their way into the stories: from the
Valley of the Temples, to the small town of Licata, as well as the beautiful city of Palermo and its neighborhoods. A location that deserves special mention is that of Favara, a village that develops around the Chiaramontano castle among narrow streets and stone houses, but where above all it is possible to glimpse the different cultural contaminations. There the project was born. Farm Cultural Park, designed to regenerate certain urban areas and in particular combat the abandonment of small towns, from this year also present in
Mazzarino.
Does “makari” really exist?
In the fiction, the protagonist Saverio Lamanna, a penniless journalist who is allergic to travel from his beloved Sicily, decides to leave Rome after committing a carelessness at work and return to his Macari. This seaside village therefore really exists (the name is spelled without a “k”) and is part of a bay extended from the Mount Bonnet until Cape St. Vitus, in the territories of the municipalities of Custonaci e San Vito lo Capo.
The four episodes of the new season unfold in this natural oasis, which along with neighboring Castelluzzo, has survived the cementification of the 1970s unscathed and has remained, to the delight of its 450 or so inhabitants, highly unspoiled. Among the beautiful beaches featured in the TV series is.
Red Cove o Sea Ox, and relaxation is assured thanks to the transparent waters of Baia Santa Margherita.
A curiosity: Macari is one of the stops on the famous
Italy Trail, which with its 6800 kilometers goes up the entire peninsula. On clear days you can even see the outlines of the Egadi on the horizon, offering breathtaking views.
Sicily and TV drama: an eternal bond
In addition to “Makari”, many TV series have been filmed, both in the past and in present times, in Sicily, some becoming very famous. For example, it is a must to mention Commissioner Montalbano, based on Andrea Camilleri’s novel of the same name and starring Luca Zingaretti. A Scicli is located the aforementioned Vigata police station, in Punta Secca there is Montalbano’s house, while the Vigata square is in Ragusa. The other places are developed between Modica, Ispica and neighboring municipalities.
