Canicattini Bagni Tours

Canicattini Bagni is the city of Art Nouveau and music. The urban layout full of eclectic-Baroque facades represents a unique example of the spread of Art Nouveau style in the early 1900s. Prominent in the beautiful historic center are the 19th-century churches, the crypt of the Church of the Holy Souls, and the original urban core with the village’s first church. The tour of Canicattini Bagni is enriched with a visit to the TEMPO Museum, founded in 2000 through the efforts of a group of scholars, is permanently located in the historic Palazzo Cassarino, and is divided into three sections: Textile, Emigration, Folk Medicine. The Weaving section displays artifacts from the late 1800s related to rural culture and textiles of various kinds that are the result of women’s industriousness, the most relevant being the “ammurgate cutres” and the “fracas.” For Folk Medicine, the museum offers an itinerary dedicated to the medicinal plants of the Iblei, through explanatory panels with the recipes and remedies of aromatizers and apothecaries. A deserving section is that of yarn dyeing with the presentation of dyeing plants that testify to the interesting naturalistic aspect of the Canicattina area. Finally, in the exhibition rooms dedicated to Syracuse emigration, one can admire the objects of Canicatta emigrants, as well as their cataloged and digitized correspondence.
