Tourism: Sicily ranked sixth among the world’s most beautiful islands
Says the ranking compiled for the World’s Best Award: Sicily is among the ten most beautiful islands in the world. It ranks sixth and is the only Italian destination.
Sicily: increasingly popular tourist destination
“Travel + Leisure” asked its readers to rate their travel experience. Collecting the votes, it compiled a ranking, and Sicily climbed three positions, compared to the previous year. It also turns out to be the only Italian destination in the top ten of the World’s Best Award.
Sicily ranked behind frontrunners Milos and Folegandros, Greece, followed by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in the Lesser Antilles, Madeira in Portugal, and the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal.
“This is a significant recognition because to make the ranking, readers are asked to rate their travel experience, taking into account a number of factors, from hospitality, sea, food, culture and places to visit. – Regional Councillor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity affirms,
Alberto Samona. – But also for the fact that our Island has been included in the prestigious top ten for the second year in a row, climbing three positions from 2020. Finally, the world is increasingly talking about Sicily for its natural, scenic and cultural beauty and this is the main calling card we want to offer for our land and for which the regional government is working tirelessly: let’s focus on beauty to build our future“.
Discovering Sicily through slow tourism
This important achievement in the tourism sector underscores that Sicily is a land increasingly appreciated by travelers. With its unique features, it proves to be a popular destination for experiencing a vacation steeped in local traditions.
In fact, when planning a trip, one can choose to simply visit a place or to experience it. To experience a place it can be useful to spend a “slow vacation,” that is, according to slow tourism. The slow tourism is a travel philosophy that allows tourists to explore an area through the eyes of its inhabitants and the culture that animates it. The classic concept of vacation is being transformed, giving much more space to the value of travel experiences.
With Magna Sicilia, our network for promoting local activities, we build ad hoc itineraries and vacations so travelers can spend days immersed in the island, enveloped in its scents, flavors and traditions. All while respecting the environment and staying in vacation homes that convey authentic Sicilian style.
The main goal remains one: to increasingly support experiential tourism that is able to enhance and protect local territories and traditions, offering travelers the chance to be inwardly enriched by unique experiences.
