Palermo “manciataria”, between history and street food

On Saturday, March 26, it will be possible to dive into the typical flavors of Palermo street food. The Ass. Explore Sicily Sites organizes “Palermo Manciataria”, a gastronomic itinerary through the city that leads to the discovery of important places while tasting local recipes rich in flavor and tradition. All, accompanied by a good glass of wine or beer. The tour starts at 5:30 p.m. and is priced at 15 euros, including tasting and tour guide.

We start from Piazza Marina, in front of Palazzo Steri, and for two hours we walk around discovering an ancient Palermo and its stories. The origins of dishes such as panino ca meusa, arancin*, panelle and cazzilli will be explored. All the way to visiting the places where cloistered nuns used to cook sfincioni and other delicacies with their “holy manuzze.” And, again, to retrace the stories of pastry shops that have now disappeared, but where Franca Floria ate iris with ricotta or where a cassata with dried fruit was cooked for the first time.
