Trekking to the Castellaccio of Monreale
A different walk from the usual, discovering the so-called ”Castellaccio,” that is, the Castle of St. Benedict of Monreale. FIAB Palermo is organizing a one-day trek to this 12th-century Arab-Norman style building.
This structure was once used for defense, then became a monastery and finally a ruin. Today, however, it is a restored property, with a portico, a garden, the remains of a church and three towers inside from which to admire a breathtaking view. In addition, it is the property of the Sicilian Alpine Club, and there is also a photographic exhibition inside that tells the story of this architecture.
The meeting point is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 13, at 9 a.m., in the main square of San Martino delle Scale (PA). Tickets are required to attend, priced at 12 euros for members and 14 for non-members. The cost also includes FIAB liability/accident insurance. To make reservations, visit the website .
