Kicking off at the Sicilia Jazz Festival

From September 13 to 19, the first edition of the Sicilia Jazz Festival will be held in the heart of Palermo’s historic center. For those who are residents or for those who have planned a vacation in Sicily these days, they will be able to experience a week of good music, with big names and unheard of personalities, local and non-local musicians, young talents from Sicilian conservatories, to enliven the most beautiful monumental sites of the island’s capital. There will also be unreleased productions featuring the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra, a tribute to Franco Battiato and a concert dedicated to Lelio Giannetto.

The festival was preceded in July and August by performances by Dee Dee Bridgewater, a great vocalist who reinvented jazz classics, and Lucy Woodward, formerly of Snarky Puppy, shows that further enriched the Sicilian tourism offerings.

The artists

Foreign and Italian artists will enliven the different stages and outstanding locations, here are some of them. Stefano Bollani, winner at the Nastri d’Argento 2021 of the title of composer of the best score for the film “Carosello Carosone,” William C. Cobham, originally from Panama, where he got into percussion while watching his cousin play. His debut was when he was eight years old. Alex Britti, guitarist and lead songwriter, proud, assertive. Richard Bona, known as “The African Sting,” a bassist and composer with an electrifying stille. Samuel, a very active songwriter and composer, has made 9 albums with Subsonica and 6 with Motel Connection, and many more.
