Family-friendly Sicily

Traveling in Sicily becomes more comfortable for the whole family. Coming soon are the long-awaited “family friendly” venues, convivial spaces rethought for the needs of parents and children. These are 500 venues, including 150 in Palermo, intended for everyone, young and old.

On Sept. 15, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Fipe-Confcommercio, theFederation’s Women’s Group and the National Forum of Family Associations.

What does it mean to be a family friendly venue?

The way people go on vacation is constantly evolving, and needs are becoming more varied. As a result, the offerings also need to be more flexible and customizable. In particular, in recent years there has been an increased demand for packages and activities suitable for the whole family and not just couples or individuals.

Because of this, more and more venues have become popular that can offer services designed for the entire family unit, so that time can be spent in an environment organized to ensure that adults and children are entertained.

With the protocol signed on September 15, within the project “Family Space, it has been planned to activate 500 premises suitable for the need, including 350 in Rome and 150 in Palermo . In addition, it was planned to give birth to a brand, platform andapp that will signal all these family-friendly businesses and activities.

Let’s learn more about the “Family Space” project: comfort and accessibility for young and old alike

The 500 entities involved in the Family Space project fall into multiple categories, such as catering, hospitality and culture, recreation and entertainment.

In a specific note from Fipe, the program drawn up includes the creation of a quality label through which to identify activities with specific offerings dedicated to a wide variety of household needs, but not only. Also a social platform that makes these places visitable online, with all the information about them, and an application to locate them.

So here’s to environments equipped with amenities that meet the needs of adults and children and provide them with recreation. Restaurants where moms and dads can chat, dabble in board games or watch the game, enjoying worry-free company while their children play in a safe space dedicated to socialization and, why not, playful learning. But also where parents and children can spend some quality time together while attending engaging shows or participating in entertaining activities.

“Our task,” explains Valentina Picca Bianchi, president of Fipe-Confcommercio’s Women Entrepreneurs, “will be to provide businesses that want to certify as family friendly with all the tools they need to modify their offerings, adapting them to the needs of families. A consulting and training task that we intend to do within Italian bars and restaurants, which will then be able to qualify and enjoy special recognition and specificity.”

“With this project,” adds President Picca Bianchi, “we want to give a signal to those who love to share moments of conviviality with the whole family and who need places with special services and with an offer designed specifically for them. We want to create a network of venues that are perceived as, precisely, familiar places. And we want to do this starting in Rome and Palermo, confident that the initiative will spread like wildfire to the rest of the country, opening up a new market to the family target audience.”

Accessibility as a basic prerequisite for a successful vacation

This project is part of a broader concept of accessibility. In fact, the term implies not only the aspect of ability/disability, but also the broader discourse of including multiple types of tourists.

In addition, with a view to tourism slow, which thus aims to experience a place and not just visit it, it is essential to ensure the best conditions of comfort for travelers. And more and more people are deciding to go away with the whole family, which is why it is important to turn to accommodations, restaurants and venues that can take care of the enjoyment of each member and offer a quality experience.

The network of Magna Sicilia selects the best activities, from the standpoint of sharing specific values, to enable tourists to have a local, comfortable and well-rounded experience.
