EricèNatale, the village of nativity scenes
One of the most anticipated events of the year in Erice is back: EricèNatale, a festival in which art meets history, folklore and the religious aspect. From Dec. 8, 2021 until Jan. 6, 2022 ill small medieval village comes alive with events of different kinds.
Alongside Jaemy Callari’s monumental mechanical nativity scene, with its 130 pieces, it will also be possible to admire the world’s smallest, set up on the eye of a needle, worthy of a Guinness World’s Record. But not only that. In fact, the courtyards, stores, squares, and the entire historic center are enriched with many more installations, each one different, but all built with traditional Sicilian materials, including cork, copper, iron, wood, and ceramics.
Also enlivening the town with joy, colors and flavors will be the iconic Santa Claus’ house, a favorite spot for the little ones, and the themed Markets in Piazza della Loggia and Piazza San Giuliano, full of typical objects and foods, such as almond pastries, cannoli and genovesi. Finally, there will also be multiple musical performances. These include the sixth edition of the International Review of Folk Music and Instruments ”Bagpipes from the World, “ where bagpipers from all corners of the globe compete for breath. The show is scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 11 and 12 and promises to be able to make anyone feel the true Christmas spirit.

Once again this year Erice, one of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages, will offer a varied calendar of events, all of which are of high quality. A calendar on which we worked, calibrating ideas and resources, in synergy with associations and citizens who, together with us, wanted to give their contribution to recreate the magical Christmas atmosphere that only Erice can give. It will be a Christmas full of novelty, sober and elegant, in which we will have to continue to show caution without, however, having to give up a few hours of serenity, with the hope that all this will bode well for a future that is as “normal” as possible.” says Daniela Toscano, mayor of the City of Erice.
