Cultural walk “Palermo of women”

On the heels of Women’s Day, Seecily Tourism Service is organizing a cultural walk through the streets of Palermo on Sunday, March 6, to retrace the stories of some of the best-known women in the area over the years.

Even, the city is said to be ”fimmina,” in soul and temperament. Just think of the 4 co-patrons, Agata, Oliva, Cristina, and Ninfa, and the undisputed fifth, Santa Rosalia. But not only that. Indeed, over the years the list of the ”fairer sex” has expanded with names that have gone down in history even for less noble motives. As in the case of serial murderer Giovanna Bonanno, known as the “vinegar old woman .” Sources narrate that she was in charge of freeing people from their spouses whom they had grown tired of. Or, Julia Tofana, a courtesan and sorceress in the court of Philip IV of Spain.

Among female artists, certainly Topazia Alliata di Salaparuta was one of the most beloved, mother of writer Dacia Maraini. And the first early Sicilian feminist poet, Giuseppina Turrisi Colonna. Not to mention that the arancina is also ‘fimmina’ here!

In short, “Palermo of Women” is a different tour from the usual, taking the curious to discover the city through the female events that have animated it over time.

The appointment to not miss this event is at 10:30 a.m. at 351 Vittorio Emanuele Street.

Tickets cost 10 euros and are free for children up to 12 years old. Reservations required at 091 5086622 or 333 2431984.
