Ballarò from above: opens the bell tower of the Carmine Maggiore church

Have you ever seen the Ballarò market from above? Starting March 27, you can. In fact, it is possible to climb the 18th-century bell tower of the Carmine Maggiore Church to admire the dome up close and master the market from up there.

The entire Carmine complex is one of the city’s major architectural and artistic masterpieces. Important works by Giacomo Serpotta, Antonello and Domenico Gagini, and Pietro Novelli are still preserved in the 17th-century Baroque church. Always characteristic is its 16th-century cloister from which the view of the bell tower remains beautiful. The very old Pieta Chapel, on the other hand, is an early construction dating back to the 12th century.

This opening was strongly desired and then encouraged by Carmelite Rector Father Piero Leta, assisted by the cultural association “guards of the temple of Christ” and a team of professionals.
