Mid-August in Sicily

Every year always the same question: what are you doing on August 15? The possibilities for spending August Ferragosto in Sicily are many, and we give you some ideas.

Ferragosto in Catania

Catania is a fascinating city with a strong character. And on the occasion of Ferragosto, the so-called “Medieval Festivals” are held, an event during which medieval-style settings are set up throughout the city, with the aim of reviving the emotions of the time for visitors. In addition, many characteristic activities such as games with jesters, witches and musicians are developed. Moving outside the center, the possibilities increase even more. In fact, adventure lovers might decide to take a tour of MountEtnaright on August 15 or explore the Alcantara Gorges. Otherwise, one can choose to take an excursion to the Cyclopean Islands or devote oneself to a more classic trip to Taormina.

Mid-August in Syracuse

Syracuse is one of the favorite population centers in eastern Sicily. In addition to ensuring plenty of attractions within its narrow streets for Ferragosto and surprising with the Festa del Mare and the Regatta of the Assumption, it does not disappoint in its surroundings either. For example, Palazzolo Acreide celebrates the Festival of St. Sebastian, which lasts about 10 days, and Ortigia hosts the Ortigia Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals in the Mediterranean. And if anyone prefers to go to the beach, the Vendicari Reserve is there just a few kilometers away and offers a unique panorama.

Ferragosto in Palermo

Palermo is a colorful, vibrant and stimulating city. On the occasion of August 15, the choice is wide. You may decide to celebrate it in one of the city’s many quaint venues or, on the other hand, in a cozy farmhouse with a swimming pool. One of the most classic and not at all disappointing ways is to spend it among the streets and squares of the historic center, discovering the wonders and food this place has to offer. And for those who prefer the sea, you can choose to reach some of the island’s most beautiful beaches: Sferracavallo, Ficarazzi, Terrasini, Mondello and Cefalù.

So what are you going to do in August? Do you know of other events? Answer in the comments!
